The latest on the bottled versus tap debate has certain questionable groups championing tap water, despite the fact that the majority of U.S. tap water contains fluoride and other harmful chemicals. Bottled water, depending on the bottler, may also contain some of these contaminants but, really, outside of setting up our own filtration systems—which can be cost-prohibitive for some—what choices do many of us have?
My skepticism radar has been raised to high alert lately about the big push toward tap water. Even CDC recently released a study admitting that fluoride is dangerous and causes IQ problems in children, along with higher incidences of dental fluorosis. Their recommendation was the lowering of fluoride in the water system.

It's always easier for people to dismiss what you say by convincing themselves you're nuts, unhappy, militant, angry--which to many of them is the same as militant--and a boatload of other buzzwords they've seen and heard in the media. But the truth of the matter is that it takes a person with aspects of those and a whole lot more to speak truth in a world besieged by lies, especially when history proves that the messenger is usually the one that's shot.

There's nothing new under the sun. What I think has already been thunk. Most of what I do, somewhere, somehow has already been done. I'm just a new conduit. That's why when I read the following excerpt taken from John Taylor Gatto's book Weapons of Mass Instruction: A Schoolteacher's Journey Through the Dark World of Compulsory Schooling, I saw many of my own thoughts and realizations. I saw the words of my mother, a former schoolteacher. I also saw the words of many former and current schoolteachers who have shared with me their honest perspectives.

A few days ago, it was Ayiti (Haiti); tomorrow, it could be you or me or someone we know. Ayiti's people are my people, and if you're of Afrikan descent, they're your people, too. So, do you sit by and sigh in relief because it wasn't you this time? Or do you feel the pain of what they're going through as if it had happened to you or a close family member or friend? Do you then, based on that feeling, that emotional draw, do everything in your power to contribute to the restoration of your people?
